The Rest Of The Story

My week that started out so ominescing last Mon, turned out to be more exciting and more eventful than I would have thought. My daughter (who lives in the Kansas City area) called and asked me if I would like to hear gracia Burnham speak. Her story is told in her book"In The Presence Of My enemies". This was at a women's luncheon at my daughter's home church.

I don't have many opportunities to spend one on one time with my daughter, so this was a golden opportunity. My husband asked if I was sure I wanted to go up there by myself. And I got the message. He wanted to go, too. As it turned out, we were all glad he went.

The evening before, my son-in-law woke up with chest pain. They had recently paid an enormous ER bill, so he was toughing it out until the dr's office opened. He planned on driving himself, but Calvin (husband) said, "No way" and he went along. The Dr. didn't like the ekg he did in his office, so, guess what. He sent him to the ER.

They were keeping us informed. Wonderful invention the cell phone, so we went on to the luncheon when they ruled out a heart problem. They still sat in the hospital for a couple of hours after lunch, and we went to our luncheon

The luncheon was great. They served my very favorite meal, homemade chicken salad and broccoli cheese soup. Mrs. Burnham's talk was inspiring. I bought her latest book. All was good

I rushed home on Friday to go shopping (at our local nursing home) with my mother who will be 99 years old on December 5. They have this company called Clothes To You that sets up a store in their activity room and the residents can purchase whatever they want. My mother was in a mood to buy clothes. She bought $121 worth of new stuff. And we both enjoyed the afternoon.

I have run out of playtime for today, so hopefully I'll be back tomorrow with some more of the story.

I'm happy

I'm happy because the sun is shining. I get to go spend time with my daughter (grown, I might add) and in spite of everything all is right with my little world. The library is fairly clean at the moment. My book shelving is caught up for now and I get to leave at noon.

So far this week, we've had a mandatory staff meeting , Mon., 8:15 a.m.. On my way I gave a deer a heart attack. He was actually on the road with me. I got a real close view of a deer's rear end that I could have done without. But I didn't quite hit him, so that's good. My husband spent $425 at the dentist. So, like I said, my world is good. I hope everybody else's world is good, too.

too long gone

It really bugs me that I cannot make as much time for this blog as I would like. I'm asking a favor today from anyone who believes in the power of prayer. Since I've worked here in the public library for so long, I've watched a lot of young people grow up into responsible adults. One of these is a young 18 yr old who has been stricken with leukemia. He's home right now after spending a month in the hospital taking chemo. Next week he gets 3 more treatments, then probably radiation and a bone marrow transplant. He just graduated from high school last spring and was really getting his life together when the diagnosis blindsided him. His name is Cody. If you just please pray for him and his family. And may our God bless. Thanks.

Missouri weather is playing tricks on us again. Today it is 56 degrees outside. Tomorrow is supposed to usher in snow flurries. Our old bones don't adjust that fast. Oh well!

Calvlin & I have been enjoying a revival in our neighbor city of Vandalia this week. The evangelist is a man who ministered here over 40 years ago. I guess this is a reunion of sorts.
It is nice to get reacquainted with Christian friends from years ago.

We are coming into reading season. I've been taking home an eclectic mix of everything. I just finished a book by Faye Kellerman - The Mercedes Coffin. It's a Decker & Lazarus novel. If anyone is interested in those, give it a try.

I'm gone again for today, but I'll try to get back real soon

It is over

At last - the 2008 election is over. My phone will no longer be subject to those annoying recorded messages. My TV will soon turn to other news. Hallelujah.

The bad thing is that the other news may be the economy. We can turn our attention to how much money our investments have lost.

The other good news is that God will provide.
